Dean’s Message

Kangwon National University College of Medicine & Graduate School of Medicine.

Established in 1997 and producing its first graduates in 2001, Kangwon National University College of Medicine is a national medical school serving as a regional hub in Gangwon Province. To date, we have trained over 1,100 outstanding physicians. After transitioning to a Graduate School of Medicine in 2008, we reverted to a College of Medicine in 2021. This year, in 2023, marks the first time that pre-med students are advancing to the main medical program, fully implementing the six-year medical education system.

Our university upholds the founding philosophy of "Sil-Sa-Gu-Si" (Practical Learning) and aims to educate medical professionals who are dedicated to regional healthcare and contribute to medical advancements. By fostering physicians who can proactively respond to future challenges, pioneering creative medical science research, and building an academic community that coexists with the region while contributing to global health, we are fully committed to our mission.

We consistently maintain one of the highest national passing rates for the Korean Medical Licensing Examination. In 2022, we achieved the highest-level six-year accreditation in the ASK 2019 Medical Education Accreditation conducted by the Korean Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation.

Our state-of-the-art Medical Buildings 1 & 2 are equipped with multimedia-based small group learning rooms (Multi-TBL rooms), comprehensive discussion facilities (PBL rooms), the Medical Education Innovation Center (including clinical practice rooms, skills training rooms, operating rooms, emergency rooms, and standardized patient rooms), a computer-based testing room (CBT room), an online content production studio, a medical library, and both clinical and basic research laboratories. These facilities support diverse medical education programs and cutting-edge research. Additionally, a dedicated dormitory for medical students provides an optimal learning environment.

Right in front of our university, students have access to a large sports field the size of a baseball stadium, two modern tennis courts, and a futsal field. Within a five-minute walk, the Baekryeong Sports Center offers an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, table tennis room, aerobics room, and gymnasium, allowing students to relieve academic stress and maintain physical well-being.

As a teaching hospital, Kangwon National University Hospital, established in Chuncheon in 2000, is the only national university hospital in Gangwon Province, operating with 650 beds to provide high-quality medical services to the local community. It plays a vital role in educating medical students and residents, offering top-tier clinical training. The hospital also serves as a national healthcare hub and a center for public medical services by housing specialized institutions such as the Regional Cancer Center, Geriatric Healthcare Center, Regional Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, Children's Hospital, Regional Respiratory Disease Center, High-Risk Pregnancy and Neonatal Care Center, and a Smart Hospital designation.

As we transition into a fully integrated six-year medical education system, we are dedicated to training physicians committed to essential and public healthcare and nurturing future medical scientists. We will continue to recruit outstanding faculty members, expand modern medical education facilities, and refine our curriculum to reflect the latest advancements in the field.

In the rapidly evolving medical landscape, we will remain at the forefront of medical education innovation and transformation, ensuring that Kangwon National University College of Medicine continues to thrive as a dynamic and forward-thinking institution.
