The Animal Research Facility is the most important facility
in Life science and Medical research
The Animal Research Facility having a 178.3 m2 area is located on the 5th floor of Medical Building No. 1 and is used to conduct animal experiments related to medical research. Four Specific Pathogen Free Animals’ (SPF) rooms are equipped with three clean racks for each room, and a general conventional room divided into two spaces. To prevent infection of experimental animals and maintain the cleanliness of researchers, they are equipped with a pit room, air shower, UV sterilization lamp, automatic temperature controller, automatic lighting device, and an air conditioning system. To maintain the Animal Research Facility, there is a manager in the pre-room, and access is controlled. In addition, a shoe rack, cleaning and drying room, and cold room for feed and bed storage are installed.
The need for the ethical use and management of experimental animals through the revision of laws in Korea is growing along with rapidly changing research environments and increasing demand for animal experiments. Therefore, to have an ethical duty and achieve scientific goals when conducting animal experiments, 3R (Reduction, Replacement, Refinement) rules are followed by researchers through cultivated professional knowledge about animal experiments. Along with animal welfare, this secures research technologies related to human life, including clinical medicine and basic medicine, and reliable animal experiments can be conducted at the KNUSM Animal Research Facility.
