Cultivation of talent based on the KNUSM establishment ideology, “Seeking truth from facts.”

KNUSM was founded in 1997 based on the establishment ideology, “Seeking truth from facts.” The aim of the KNUSM establishment was to cultivate talent that can solve medical problems in the local community, and it produces excellent experts every year.

About 130 faculty members of KNUSM focus on student education and research to foster talent based on the establishment’s ideology. To lead medical education, we began operating the medical ability development center and self-skill practice laboratory in 2009 and 2015, respectively, to prepare for the national practical examination. The Medical Education Innovation Center was established in 2018 to strengthen performance-based education and prepare for curriculum evaluation. In addition, it has a practical education system, such as a TBL room, PBL room, and a clinical technique practice room in KNU hospital (KNUH). During the curriculum, we run “Student Internship,” “Specialized Practice,” and “International Student Exchange Programs” for students to learn about various careers and have a wide perspective.

Introduction of the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) system for the first time in Korea for “Respect for Life and Development of Medicine.”

KNUSM conducts various student activities in cooperation with KNUH, an educational hospital. KNUH is a local hospital equipped with 680 beds for pediatric care, cancer patients, cardiovascular patients, elderly health care, and respiratory disease patients. The close relationship between faculty and students in clinical practice and their feedback in various ways is our strength.

Our faculty members exercise tremendous efforts to select talented people who fit the establishment ideology. In 2007, we introduced Multi Mini Interview (MMI) in the entrance system for the first time in Korea for evaluating students who possess harmonization of “knowledge,” “wisdom,” and “benevolence.”

KNUSM’s achievements in research are that it is ranked among the top 10 medical schools nationwide, and more than 200 papers are published every year. KNUSM is a small but strong and growing medical school. We will do our best to provide an outstanding medical school beyond the Gandwon Province.
