OVERVIEW

Rehabilitation medicine is a specialty that assists people in recovering their functions which they lost owing to diverse medical conditions or injuries. Anyone may require rehabilitation at some point in their life, following a disease, injury, surgery, or because function has reduced with age. The goal of rehabilitation medicine is to maximize body function, participation, independence, and quality of life for a person with impairment, and to maintain and/or prevent further decrease in a person’s function. In addition, rehabilitation medicine helps patients return to society or occupation.

Rehabilitation medicine continues to develop as public awareness of impaired persons and the needs of patients for treatment and quality of life increase. The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is committed to improving the quality of life of all patients and overcoming disability.
