Anatomical pathology is a medical specialty primarily concerned with the diagnosis of diseases based on macroscopic and microscopic examinations of organs and tissues. Occasionally, additional tools, such as immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and molecular testing, are used to make the final diagnosis. Over the past century, surgical pathology has evolved into a modern practice that guides treatment decisions in oncology, with a focus on cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
