Preventive medicine

OVERVIEW

Preventive medicine covers a wide range of fields, including research, health policy, social development for the identification and prevention of disease causes, and even protection and promotion of public health. The Department of Preventive Medicine, Kangwon National University College of Medicine, was established to conduct education and research on the prevention of various diseases.

Epidemiology could be characterized as follows: first, the subject of study is the population; second, the frequency and distribution of all health-disease phenomena from health to death, occurring in the population group; and third, the causative factors related thereto. This study conducts research and develops practical means for disease prevention and health promotion. Thus, epidemiology is an academic field that occupies a key position in the basic study of clinical medicine and public health.

Occupational and Environmental Medicine is the study of the effects of occupational and environmental exposure on the diseases and health conditions of populations and how to prevent diseases. It is a field of medicine that studies how humans can lead a life in a healthy environment by establishing preventive measures. Social epidemiology is a study of the social distribution and determinants of health, which begins with the study of social context referring to social structures or social relationships, analyzes the social causes of ill health, and explores social solutions for health.

The research fields that this class focuses on include clinical intervention research, cancer, molecular, environmental, occupational, and social epidemiology. By operating it, we nurture the next generation of academics.
