Medical Environmental Biology

OVERVIEW

The Department of Medical Environmental Biology and Tropical Medicine (Parasitology major) has two faculty members who conduct research and educational activities.

Parasitology is the study of various parasites that infect humans. We primarily focus on infectious diseases caused by protozoa parasites. In particular, we are actively researching the “development of malaria diagnostic tools, vaccines, and therapeutic agents using advanced techniques.”

Parasitic diseases occur worldwide as well as in Korea. Thus, we work with various international research institutions.

In the educational activities, we are running a clinical parasitology lecture and practice class for the first-year students of the Graduate School of Medicine to teach basic knowledge of parasitic disease diagnosis and treatment that are necessary for clinical decisions as physicians.
