Anatomy

OVERVIEW

In anatomy, students learn the overall and detailed structures and functions of organs comprising various systems and understand the principles of the human body, which is the basic knowledge of medicine, by determining the interrelationship of each organ.

Histology is based on the understanding of the morphological structures of human organs by the naked eye in anatomy. Students use microscopes to study the cells and intercellular substances in each organ, thereby understanding the relationships between normal structures and their function, and acquiring basic knowledge to understand the pathophysiology of the disease.

Through embryology, students learn the processes of morphological changes in the embryo and fetus, which are prenatal states from the beginning of life to adulthood.

In May 2003, a memorial monument was erected in the backyard of the dissection practice room to pay tribute to the noble spirit of body donors. The ossuary, which is capable of accommodating 320 units, was built next to the room, and bereaved families could visit it at any time to commemorate the deceased. When the dissection practice is over, a memorial ceremony is held every year by the chancellor of Kangwon National University, the families of the donors, the professors of the anatomy class, and the first-year students who participated in the practice. Every March, before starting the dissection practice, professors and students from the entire classroom gather in front of the memorial monument to pray for the bliss of the donors.
